Homemade Garlic Mac + Cheese
an apron is just a cape on backwards
I am so excited to share my favourite Mac + cheese recipe. I am usually known for trying to make my recipes healthy, but this just a classic go- to Mac + cheese that is a favourite in our household. Far from healthy!
I included some pictures below on how I make mine, step by step, in case you are the visual type!
1/4 cup flour
1/4 cup margarine or butter
1 full tsp of garlic
2 cups of milk
2 cups of cheese of choice
About 400g of elbow macaroni
Pepper + salt to taste
Start by boiling the water for the macaroni. Cook the noodles until perfectly tender, strain, and set aside.
Start preparing the sauce when you start boiling the water for the noodles. They finish around the same time.
Place the first 3 ingredients (flour, butter, and garlic) in a saucepan, medium heat, and whisk consistently. It should begin to slightly brown and bubble.
(This is known as roux.)
Add any desired seasonings with the roux at any point.
Mix in your milk with the roux. I add all at once, whisking occasionally.
Once the mixture starts lightly bubbling and thickening, add your cheese. Constantly stir and remove from heat.
Combine the sauce and noodles and voila!
